Hey guys, I'm from Miami. Which is probably further south than any of you. Which sucks for me right? lol. When I was in high school it was the peak of the ska craze in the late 90s and even Miami had a bustling ska scene. But now that I'm older a...

About Me:
I really started listening to SKA during high school when I was introduced to a not yet well-known band from my hometown called Less Than Jake. I soon became a regular at LTJ shows and befriended others who were at the deeper ends of the local scene. Soon I was going to ska and punk shows two to three times a week with bands like the Usuals, Baker Act, Skif Dank, Sleepy Odie, and whatever bands came through town. I also started discovering bands across the country (and world) from getting every ska comp I could get my hands on and copying friends cds and vinyls to a ancient recording format known as the cassette tape! During college (University of Florida - Fine Arts: Electronic Intermedia), I was jamming out to bands like Buck-O-Nine, The Suicide Machines, Against All Authority, Slapstick, the Specials, and the Skatalites. I went to local shows, fests, the Warped Tour, wherever I could go to get my ska fix. It also helped that there was this cool new thing called the internet that allowed me to find mp3s and better yet, a service called Napster that let me download anything and everything I wanted... of course we all know what came of that! In the midst of this, I met a girl who would later turn out to be my wife. We both graduated and moved to Southwest Florida and became teachers (I teach middle school graphic arts). Five years later, as a side project, I decided to start podcasting and create a "SKA" MySpace profile as a way to stay connected with SKA since my town has a very lacking scene. I also started creating some ska inspired designs for tshirts, mugs, etc. With the success I had from all of this, I decided to take it all a step further and create a ska web portal (skaspot.com) and a ska social network (this one) with the help of Ning.com. Through it all, these last few years, I've discovered some incredible bands, met some awesome people, and my love for the music grows stronger.

"Change is Here!" and ska is here to stay! Check out the new "SKABAMA" design at SKA-Mart. It's a spoof of the "CHANGE" posters, transforming Obama into Walt Jabsco.

New Changes Coming Soon: A NEW Band Directory

As you might have noticed on the SKA Toolbar, the featured band list hasn't been updated in months. Why? Well... I've been looking into ways that the list can be made more comprehensive - not just linking to a band's MySpace, but to their official website, iLike, PureVolume, Facebook, etc. I also wanted to make user submissions easier. I also want to make the lists available to a broader crowd by featuring them simultaneously on the toolba… Continue

I'm sorry to say... The SKAspot Hall of Fame and SKAspot BOTM is no more...

I'm afraid I haven't done a real good job promoting the monthly contest and it seems that the same people are nominating the same bands every month. I'd like to focus my energy on what really matters to SKAspot users so I'm doing away with the Hall of Fame and will re-focus my energy on improving the overall portal. I hope to make it more comprehensive and integrated with SKA Summit, SKApedia, SKAToob, and the rest of the SKAspot Family. I know many will be disappointed while others won't notice… Continue

SKA Venues Map Added to SKA Summit - Please Contribute!

You may have noticed a new menu item under events on the SKA Summit website. Yes... we now have a map of SKA Venues. I added this map in hopes that we could help bands find places to play ska and plan tours as well as for fans to find ska shows in whatever part of the world they're located. The success of this map, however, depends entirely on you. We need you to add venues from your scene. The map is set up as a wiki that can be edited by visitors so please feel free to contribute.Who knows, yo… Continue

PMOG and SKA go hand in hand!

If you have no clue what PMOG is, here's a brief description (a la wikipedia). PMOG (Passively Multiplayer Online Game) is an online game which players 'passively' participate in while browsing web pages. Players earn data points by visiting unique domains, which they can spend on various game items that can be attached to web pages to trigger events when another player next visits that page.

I heard about PMOG through WIRED magazine and thought I'd give it a whirl. I started on Wednesday and i… Continue

Hey just dropped by, I used to play drums for Bad Manners.
I just uploaded tons of pictures from the recent USA tour. I am from London, but live in Leawood, Kansas. It was great to have the Pietasters open up for us, I have been friends with them since they started and opened up for us 20 years ago in Virginia.
