I'm pretty much old-school - the Specials, Madness, the Selecter, the Skatalites, Fishbone, the Toasters, Ska Cubano, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orch. Also love any kind of dance music, Middle Eastern bellydance music, Squirrel Nut Zippers, like that. Not to mention jazz and be-bop - that's where the beatnik part comes in.

About Me:
I am a future priest of Yemaya in the Lucumi/Santeria tradition. Also a loving wife, podcaster of Radio Bastet - Vintage Belly Dance Music, struggling student doula with the CBI program, amateur rootworker and graduate of cat yronwode's Lucky Mojo Hoodoo Rootwork Course, ska/2-tone/beat generation devotee, MSTie, political lefty, mermaid freak-a-zoid, cat wrangler, book hoarder, offbeat movie lover, neophyte knitter barely past the scarf stage, and lapsed bellydance student. In spite of all this, I am frequently bored. What can I say - I'm flawed.
I apologize for not being here too much! Hope to remedy that soon. But in the meantime, here are some other places you can find me on the world wide web:
Facebook (if the link doesn't work, just search for Marisa Young, Portland OR)
For my first blog post, I would like to present some blatant self-promotion. I just created a group for the ladies - Rude Girls Unite! If you are a skankin' gal, please join me and spread the word, won't you? Thanks! (Ah, so nice to be in a place where "skank" is not a dirty word...)
We can always still catch them nowadays, but doesn't seem like they'd have the same energy as they did then. Anyhow, I've got a request. As you can see I've got most of the ska groups I listen to listed. Care to request anything I haven't heard?

I envy you in the sense that you were around when most of the 2 tone groups I like were in their prime. :D
