Please don't bandy the term "ska idols" about to every two-bit lounge act with horns. While fans of ska may say otherwise, it's important to instate *some* level of quality and standards into the genre. In fact, just refrain from using any descriptor that features the word "ska".

I've heard little of the Caddies, but the frequent comparisons and connections between the Caddies and Cherry Poppin' Daddies have pushed me over the edge into seeing them on the 19th, at a club less than a mile from my house and with a 21+ age limit (which is the only way I prefer to see ska punk shows nowadays). From what little I've heard, it should be interesting.

Mad Caddies are SKA. I have no idea where you would draw Cherry Poppin' Daddies out of their sound. Plus, all ages are the way to go. Making something exclusive is something that bands don't typically like to do.

Ironic, because I kept count the whole night and they only played five songs that featured ska or ska punk rhythms. The rest were either rather decent reggae-rock or sort of bland pop-punk. However, the horn section was fantastic...that trumpet player was out of this world. I'd be very interested in rooting through their repertoire...I have a feeling I'd only like about 40% of it, but that 40% would no doubt be totally awesome.

It's easy to see the comparisons to CPD, at least on paper: a genre-bending rock band that integrate elements of ska, jazz, funk, swing, punk and reggae into their sound. Not to mention the fact the Daddies/Caddies are old tourmates, half of CPD wrote and performed on 'Keep It Going' and CPD's Dustin Lanker continually acts as a touring keyboardist for the Caddies and is in several Caddies side projects. Unfortunately, that's pretty much where the comparisons end...they're both their own separate entities.
