Where SKAspotters Socialize!

Althought ska will probably always be some of my favorite music, i've recently been listening to alot of "melodic hardcore" "hardcore pop punk" whatever you wanna call it. Bands such as Four Year Strong, A Day to Remember, and Daggermouth have some really catchy hooks, and catchy hooks are what ska's all about, right? I know a song has to be some what catchy for me to listen to it, and that's probably the ska talking, seeing as ska was really the first music i ever got really into.
Anyone else find the beatdowns and breakdowns of hardcore appealing?

Husker Du is one of the greatest bands of all time...quite possibly my favorite band of all time. I don't see any connection with ska whatsoever, but still.

^Yes!^ But I don't really consider them hardcore, more punk. And I know hardcore is a form of punk, but Descendents don't cross the hardcore line for me. And woah, I'm wearing a Descendents shirt right now.
But for hardcore bands, I like 7 Seconds, can't go wrong with Black Flag, Reagan Youth, or THE BAD BRAINS (that's a big one). Then if you're feeling even more into the heavier stuff, and you start listening to thrash, Municipal Waste is great.

Hence the term and previous discussion of *melodic* hardcore. The Descendents dabbled in melodic hardcore here and there, but for the most part, they fall within the spectrum of pop punk.

Still...in the chain of "melodic hardcore"/pop punk...

Husker Du > Big Drill Car > ALL > Descendents > Gorilla Biscuits > Dag Nasty > Chemical People

I like it but think it is often taken too seriously.
The mentality is full of ignorance but the music is pretty good.

I'm not great with labeling genres and such but might enjoy it some at times. There are two bands that seem to at least partly be put in that category though not sure how much entirely?

Kid Dynamite
None More Black

I've been listening to a lot of the band Detonate lately. They're a melodic skacore band from Texas. Unfortunately they broke up a few years back. But definitely check them out.
