Where SKAspotters Socialize!

I dont know about you, but I have a hard time finding music on sites like limewire... is it a good idea for someone with the tech skills to make a p2p site with nothing but ska music, vids, etc?

you could try punkskahxc.com if you are so inclined to such internet piracies. they aren't all ska but the little ska they do have is somewhat nice. if you are also so inclined there's also demonoid, filestube.com, and blog searching. blog searching actually returns a pretty good rate of return compared to the others.

now to actually get to the topic, it would be pretty sweet to have that but the amount of input required from so many different people would make it difficult. this site already has a hard enough time getting a lot of people on it regularly!

Alternatively, you could just buy it. And not steal from the music you claim to love

i have thought about that...i do love ska...i dont know if i consider it stealing tho it is essentially just sharing music

I think it's fine to some extent...for examle, alot of the stuff I have downloaded, I also have on vinyl...I still technically own the music, but just on a different format...I think that's perfectly acceptable...

It's not stealing. It's copyright infringement.

Whatever its called, its still taking money away from a industry thats small enough as it is. support the music.

Jesse Dude, Bridget and Simon are telling it like it is man!, a lot of smaller bands are self funding, on tiny labels.
Not to mention the old bill or "Feds", are starting to take a real dim view of file share sites, so stay clear!.

the way i use limewire....i find tunes from bands i dont have a lot of....if i like what i hear, i go pick up the CD....i do not, ever, try and get a whole album from a p2p site, fuck all that. that isnt right. like i downloaded the toasters 'East Side Beat' the other day...and i dig the shit out of that song....so when i can, im gonna go pick whatever CD its on....but its really hard to find any toasters in the stores......if fact the only one i have found in the store was 'hard band for dead'....and i got fuckin lucky that day...i cant find any five iron, any slow gherkin, english beat, any GOOD SKA in the stores, so what i have to do is download a track or two to find what i like, THEN i go and buy it....i dont feel what i'm doing here is wrong, but i really do appreciate the input from everyone who responded...and, again, i dont agree with getting complete albums from p2p sites....

@ Jesse...man, I'm telling you try eBay or Amazon...I get really good ska CDs on Amazon for like 1.00...and if you're looking for vinyl, I'd suggest eBay...I just won Wha'ppen and What is Beat in the same auction...it was both of them...for 2.25 plus shipping...so even if you're short on cash, most of the time, you can find great ska CD's and records on online stores for cheap...the only thing that makes it tricky for me is foreign ska...now that's another story....shipping things from overseas can get ridiculously expensive...if anybody could suggest a way to get some of that on the cheap, I'd be set!

4thwaveDave makes a good point, but you won't know what you like...until you hear it first?, ok, go here;

You can't download any tracks, but you can play them, get leads to other stuff you might like, then aim your limited funds at only the stuff you want, Look me up on there, don't cost nothing to join up, you'll hear stuff from all over !, there's a world of great ska out there dude, enjoy!.

I also suggest using www.pandora.com ...you can make your own radio stations based on 1 or more bands that you like. I've actually discovered new bands that I never knew about from that site...and it's FREE as well...although there's light advertising on the site...it's still a great tool for discovering music you never knew that you would like...
