Where SKAspotters Socialize!

this is kinda off topic, but I was just wondering how the ska community felt about this coming election for you living in the states...personally, I'm undecided on who to vote for, to be honest, I don't like either of them, but seeing as how my family personally and the rest of the country is in economic crisis right now, it's imperative we put the right person in there...view? opinions?...I'm just curious to see where the community stands on this issue...

i think honestly they are both full of shit and it think none of them desrves it obama is just doing this all for show ! all they are worried about is getting the vote they dont understand people are going through economically or physically.... they are all just a bunch of people who are out for themselves thats why im not voting for either of them.

You realize not voting means you have no reason or right to complain if you don't like the state of the USA in 1, 2, 3, 4 years from now. We have a right that so many people in this world do not have, and here some are, throwing that away....how sad.

This is a very important election with a lot of huge issues on the line. Women's rights, the economy, the direction we're taking with energy, the war, relationships with other nations....Everything. I don't see how one could just "not care" when every single life will be changed in some way or another with the decisions being made here in the next few months.

This hug?

or this hug?

I'll go for the first hug...

show me where in the constitution it says that if you don't vote you don't get to complain and ill vote just so i can complain. Although ill probably vote for a third party.

You won't find it anywhere in the constitution that you're not allowed to complain, however, if you're complaining and yet haven't done the most basic thing you can do to effect change, then you'd be a bit of a hypocrite. Think of this, if 600 or so more people in the entire state of Florida had gotten off their asses and voted for Al Gore, the last 8 years of George W. Bush's bullshit wouldn't have happened.

The point is that if i dont like either of the candidates why would i waste my time and gas going to vote for them? Or why would i waste my time going to vote for a third party that has zero chance of winning, especially in Utah were unless McCain comes out as a Mormon hater or communist he's going to win. It sounds to me like what you're saying is if you dont waste your time and gas you don't get to complain.

I don't know how far away your polling place is, but mine is 2 blocks away, and takes 10 minutes or less to walk there, pull a lever, and walk back. You can't know who's going to win until it happens, hence the reason I cited Florida and the 2000 election. It's a pretty populous state that came down to less than a thousand votes. I'm not saying vote for somebody you don't support, but something's got to be said for trying. Complaints are only going to fall on deaf ears if you're not willing to back them.

actually in Utah you can know how the vote is going to go if i lived in a state that the vote wasn't already decided then i might go vote.

I'm voting for Obama. I genuinely like his policies and he's probably our best bet at getting some semblance of respect back for our country and the economy back on track. Also I really like Biden he has an excellent record and lots of foreign and economic experience.

The thing is no I don't agree with them one hundred percent but then again I probably never will with any candidate. If I wanted to be picky like Klaus said, run for office yourself. You might as well do what you can and hope for the best. And if it really bothers you that somethings wrong and you want it to change, do something, I'm associated with Amnesty International because I don't feel like the issues they deal with get the attention they deserve. I'm trying. Also like many of you, I am for socialism I love the idea, fuck the American dream if it means someone else doesn't have to suffer because someone else has to absolutely have there own 5 story mansion or a face lift.

In the end I think it really is people are being stubborn and don't look at there policies and what they really are saying, its to easy to say they all suck, or they just want power and when the good ones slip through who's fault is it? Gore is a good example, when he was running for president he was just some stupid politician now hes this world voice golden boy, noble prize winner. And Edwards who was running in the Democratic primaries, that guy was the real voice of the poor and was probably the biggest hope to get big business out of government. It broke my heart when he lost. Both good politicians, lost because of stubborn, lazy people.

Just go vote, even if it's McCain just to piss me off, at least that'll say you're doing something and you have a stance.

And Klaus if you run and promise an amendment for no whiners you have my full support.
