Where SKAspotters Socialize!

Hi, I've been trying to find some good sites that have up-to-date Ska news and haven't had much luck. So... I decided that I would bug the group to see if they could help make a list of sites that they go to for info on their favorite ska bands. Also, what are some good sites to go to find out about upcoming shows. There isn't much out there that I can see, but more eyes are better to find stuff, right?

I do the same as Ben, but I also check sites like pollstar, my local ska scene website, forums, and I casually check myspace. Myspace is actually becoming the fastest, up-to-date place to look for shows, as bands can add one show at a time right off the bat, as opposed to waiting for the whole tour getting put together and THEN distributing the info about the tour in its entirety.

I like to check out the local music zines, they are always free and have alot of info. In San Diego we have The Reader and CityBeat. Smaller local bands use craigslist to promo their shows for free. I find that the best thing for me is to check out the venues where most ska bands play and check their calendars. Belly up Tavern, Canes and The Casbah here in San Diego. The events page here is usually pretty good too.

Stay Rude!

local scene boards help out a lot, but check out the things everyone else said, because a message board shoudln't be the end all/be all of your search.

Thanks all! I'm in New York City, which you would think I'd be able to find a lot, but for whatever reason it seems to be hidden from me. Who knows. I'll check out some of the stuff you guys said.

Cool man. I'm also in NYC. I play in 3 ska bands in the area. Bigger Thomas, Spider Nick and the Maddogs and The Rudie Crew. Drop me a pm or something and I can hook you up with some good advice on exactly where to go when looking for your ska fix.

Cheers,
Chris
