Ska Summit

Where SKAspotters Socialize!

Well we're rolling into summer, and that means that Ska Weekend is once again right around the corner :D . The self-styled "biggest ska show in the country" is now entering it's 5th year, in Knoxville, TN of all places. Just wondering if there's anyone who's been in the past, or anyone who plans to attend this year? The first 9 of the 21 planned bands have been announced. No really big name bands currently, but they usually end up getting some pretty big acts. The Slackers, Mustard Plug, and Westbound Train all played last year.

Currently announced:

The Taj Motel Trio
Fatter Than Albert
Royal City Riot
50:50 Shot
Stuck Lucky
The Hits
Chase Long Beach
Manic Sewing Circle
Stereohype

One of my bands, Bigger Thomas is playing. We will be a part of the next line up announcement. We're celebrating our 20 year anniversary this year and this one is going to be a good one!

Too bad the west coast only has 3 Floors of Ska, International Ska Circus, and trad and ska-punk shows just about every week, eh?

Nice, I'll be sure to look for you all.

Also, @Skibz: Unfortunately, this is about the only thing we've really got around here. The local scene is barren, and there aren't really any thriving scenes in any connected states. So for those of us who are ska fans around here, this is like Christmas.

this line up doesn't seem all to great in my opinion. though, if bigger thomas is playing that will make it loads better

Here's the updated lineup (With Bigger Thomas)

12:30 50:50 SHOT
1:00 MANIC SEWING CIRCLE
1:30 IN THE FACE
2:00 TBC
2:30 BIGGER THOMAS
3:00 MURPHY'S KIDS
3:30 STUCK LUCKY
4:00 FATTER THAN ALBERT
4:30 STEREOHYPE
5:00 HUB CITY STOMPERS
5:30 ROYAL CITY RIOT
6:00 RYAN SCROGGINS AND THE TRENCHTOWN TEXANS
6:30 CHASE LONG BEACH
7:00 THE TAJ MOTEL TRIO
7:30 THE HITS
8:00 AKA RUDIE

Not the best slot for us, but it gives me some time to enjoy the other bands though, so that's cool.

i personally think you guys should be going later than that. talent alone( in my opinion), you guys should be a the 7:30 or 8:00 slot.

I'm not one to really disagree, but we've never played ska weekend before where as I've seen that every band (with the possible exception Ryan Scroggins & The Trenchtown Texans, AKA Rudie, and Chase Longbeach) after us has played Ska Weekend before. All this says to me is that we'll have that much more of a justification to play that much better than everyone else that night to prove that we don't belong in that kind of a slot.

Just kind of sucks to be placed so low that night considering we're celebrating our 20 Year Anniversary as a band, but on the plus side, by 2:30 everyone should be there, and no one will have left by the time we're done playing.

Oh we have it good - you're right about that!!

I missed the three floors because I went to see The Jam!

What's the international Ska Circus? - when?

it happens in vegas from time to time

a bunch of ska bands play all day long at the clark ampitheatre. not happening here this year apparently.

last year though, the line up included:
deals gone bad
hub city stompers
buck o nine
mu330
mustard plug
the pietasters
the slackers
the toasters
sekta core
the english beat

i know im missing a band or two.

Well the lineup is far from complete, so there's plenty of time for more additions. Like I said, last year The Slackers, The Pietasters, Mustard Plug, Hub City Stompers, and Westbound Train all played, and the year before that we had Big D and the Kids Table and Catch 22. Alot of the bands announced so far will be playing on the side stages.

I'm definitely excited for Bigger Thomas though.

Wish I could make it to this, FTA are one of my favorite bands. I tried going last year but I couldn't get a ride.
