Where SKAspotters Socialize!

I know I might put some peopl angry here, but I always want to know what band pisses you off because they're some pop sellout concept peices of crap (or just bands you don't like).
This thread is a must on every music forum.
Tell what band that everybody likes makes your skin crawl and precise why.
ANd I don't wan any whiny sucker saying that "this band is too punx to be sellout and it's super cool". Everyone can express his opinion here about why they hate some band.
Now is the time to spit, puke and blur out all your hatre on the bands you hate.

I hate mainly 2 bands.
Streetlight Manifesto : it's not the band itself or the concept that bugs me (even if it is too oten considered a "super awesome and important band" by som posers), it's the music itself. The songs sound way too much the same, it's all too fast, the guitar sounds like high-speed string masturbation and the music itself gives this crappy "unity and wow that's awesome" feeling. Their image ain't that bad, but I just don't like the music.

The Johnstones: Do I have to explain myself? I think I do.
They're just a bunch of fresh opo-punk kids that some manager took from high-school, gave them a style, gave them a concept (pretty crappy) and made them a pop-punk/ska/rap crappy band. They have this "I'm-a-good-kid-and-i-want-to-look-like-a-street-punk-but-I-don't-want-to-be-rejected-so-I-mix-it-with-whatever-is-fresh-bling-and-popular-right-now" style. I maen.. look at the trombone player!: he has this big mohawk, but is dressed like some skate/rap fresh douchebag and has S shaved on his head. Their music is a mix with pop, punk, ska, rap, bouncy crap and some beastie boys wannabe pop. They're just a concept made to make money.

..Wow... that was hardcore. A little to raw and maybe exagerated a little bit, but true.

Now, It's your turn.

OK I'M JUST GONNA SAY IT

Operation Ivy and Rancid

I mean come ON. No amount of crappy recording quality is gonna make up for the garbage sounds of operation Ivy. I know I know. They're one of the most influential 3rd-wave bands. I can respect that, but not their music. That's just trash.

And Rancid? I'm normally tolerant of awful vocals but Tim Armstrong sounds like he swallowed a gopher with aids. The only time I can tolerate them is when he sings normally.
Which isn't often.

Voo Doo Glow Skulls - I just hate these guys for some reason. I don't like their sound at all.

The Aquabats - I don't really hate them, but I don't care for their ska music all that much. Their newer synth/pop-punk kinda music is lots of fun though.

If you hate Streetlight, then you should read this thread. Six pages worth of Streetlight arguing. It's pretty neat.

Apart from Streetlight, I've just been really critical of the current Southern Californian ska scene, or lack thereof. The bands we all have are very bland and generic...nothing interesting at all. Add to the fact that because of the lack of sound variety in the ska scene, these derivative bands are becoming more popular than they should be (e.g. Chase Long Beach is now going to be touring internationally(?!)). Once I get back from NY, I'm going to try as hard as possible to start as many ska bands as possible and at least *attempt* to do something productive.

I agree. I think Rancid's very overrated. However, 'Life Can't Wait' is a fantastic album.

that's exactly what I wanted!
you made me laugh
I agree with you (even though I don't hate Op. Ivy music).
but I think Rancid are way too overrated and sellout among punk kids.

South California man!
where whatever is popular comes from the media factory and has been made with whatever South Californian brats like these days.

Capdown.

Just because " YOU WERE NEVER A SKA BAND ON THE BACK OF A COUPLE OF TRACKS YOU FOUND THE OFFBEAT ON".

And I honestly don't care what others think, they were crap IMHO

You're right, op ivy is not that good of a band. However, Matt Freeman knows what he's doing with a bass in his hands. I have to at least stick up for him.

I really don't like Voodoo Glow Skulls. Or The Hippos. And bands like Leftover Crack and Against All Authority annoy me more than most bands, even though neither are really ska... Usually I try giving most ska bands at least the time of day or I try not to rag on them too much, just because the scene is so small...

Someone is going to say they hate new Catch 22. I like their sound after Tomas left, even if they're commies :)

This is gonna piss alot of people off.
I honestly don't care for The Toasters.
I can't even justify it.
Just don't like'em.

OH! and does anyone remember when Less Than Jake played ska? that was cool.

I've noticed a lot of people don't like The Toasters. I guess it's understandable, as their last two albums weren't very good and they basically have the same set list for every show for the past few years. However, 'Hard Band for Dead' and 'D.L.T.B.G.Y.D.'? I just have a hard time accepting that ska fans can't like those albums.

Not going to piss me off... I can count on one hand the number of tracks I'd play out as a DJ. Don't let the bastards...,

err,,,,, make that one finger :D
