Where SKAspotters Socialize!

I hate paying gas. I love vespas. I just got a job. The answer I see is to get one. First, I need info. What is the mpg for different kinds and what is the mph for those kinda things. Are they highwayable in California or Nevada (I'm moving to vegas this Summer). Other info like that would be awesome.

Also, are there any Californiers that would be willing to sell their vespa for a good price? Lemme know.

Here's a couple of Vespa shops in Orange County, if it helps:

Vespa of Newport Beach & Sherman Oaks
Massimo's Vespa Shop in Costa Mesa (mainly a repair shop, but also has some vintage for sale)

Steven are you looking for new or vintage?

Massimo has been listing quite a few Vespas on craig's list lately. His prices seemed pretty fair for a shop that is.

Just did a quick scan and there's a P200 in Fullerton/Anaheim..and I remember there's one over at The Scooter Shop in Orange. Both aren't pretty but customizing them cosmetically and/or mechanically is the fun part.

The one is Orange has been on ebay a couple of times with no one meeting the reserve. I was in the shop a couple weeks ago and Mic said give me $1,200 and take it away. It's ugly but the motor has been gone through so mechanically iT should be sound.

Hit me back if you need help looking for a vintage scooter.

Yeah, I'm looking for a vintage one. Preferably mid 60s.

I'll keep my eyes open...probably good idea to get a 150cc and build motor to 180 or ? That should give you the speed you need to keep up with modern traffic.

I don't know how "highwayable" a scooter from the mid-60s would be. It's a bit of a task for modern scoots, but much more so with vintage. Not just speed-wise (under 125cc for sure won't cut it) -- but the body shape (wind resistance) and small tires (8-10") don't make for a smooth ride at high speeds. ...Just a thought.

A modern Vespa with 150-250cc, 11-12" tires, and less wind-resistant body would get you 70+ mpg, 70-85 mph, and a smoother ride on highways. (And less weekends in the garage/shop.)

Hehe, I'm actually not as "against" vintage scooters as it may seem. I guess I'm just more "for" modern practicality and convenience.

Steven -

There's some scoots on scoot.net that may interest you. Not sure what your budget is..but worth a look. Shipping from across the US typically runs about $650..yeah it sucks, but sometimes you have to do it to get what you want..

I still stand behind my original suggestion of a P200. Especially for the first scoot...but there are many others that will make you happy too.

Steve - have you had any luck?

Last week, I found something cool, but now I can't remember where I saw it and it's driving me crazy!

Were you at The Slackers on Friday night?

Reply to This

I have had absolutely no luck whatsoever. I was there on Friday, in fact I parked next to a really nice red vintage vespa and admired it for a few minutes.

I thought I recognized you (there) from your Avatar....I didn't come over to introduce myself because it was way too loud and you would have made me dance in that circle! : D

I'll look for that scoot some more - maybe they took it off the post because it sold. I just can't remember which site it was on...

How much is your budget? Lots of interesting vintage stuff up for sale right now. ...maybe you can pm me that $$ info - are pms possible on this site? They should be...
