Where SKAspotters Socialize!

This discussion is a chance for you to introduce yourself and talk about your scene. I'll start it off...
Hello, I'm Andy, creator of this network and SKAspot.com. I live in SW FL and I'm a transplant of the Gainesville, FL ska scene (Less Than Jake, The Know How, The Usuals). We don't have much of a scene where I currently live which is probably why I do so much online. Some of my favorite bands are Buck-O-Nine, LTJ, The Johnstones, MU330, The Specials, [spunge], Hepcat, The Dragonaires, Toots and the Maytals, and there's too many more to mention. I'm a graphic arts teacher at a local middle school and in my spare time I work on projects like this, podcasting, and drawing/ painting.

Hi...I'm Kyle from Oxford, UK though I'm currently living in Birmingham. Been into ska since I first heard Time Bomb by Rancid (my first CD aged 6!!). But its only since I moved to the UK about 4 years ago that I've really got a chance to get into the less mainstream stuff. Currently my favorite ska bands are: Fandangle, Mr Shiraz, [spunge], The King Blues, 7 Seconds of Love, Sonic Boom Six & Buck-O-Nine.

Hello,
i am Mr. Mod from Thun in Switzerland, thats because i dont write really good english.;-) i`m a Musician, i dont only Play Ska, i do also play Rock or Blues, but the Traditional Ska and the Reggae is my HeartBlood. My great influence are The Slackers, or Adjusters, they have the groove ;-)

i dont like Oi!, the only Oi! band i listened to are Cock Sparrer, at least i dont like the splitted skinheadscene, because the most skinheads today arent really traditional anymore.

I go to every Concert i can, i hope i see you on a Concert;-)

Mr. Mod

Eyesore a local band. But I yeah I love ska and punk music I am a college radio station DJ for a punk show called media blitz and I play ska/punk/hardcore/thrash and more. Yeah so my top favorite band right now is Streetlight Manifesto or Operation Ivy but all the other bands I am into are on my page so check it out.

Mark, a.k.a Klaus Vanderson, guitar, The Vandersons , Buffalo NY. We've got about 10 or so Ska bands here, some are ok, others aren't. Mostly ska/punk my band included, there's one really good Neo-trad/Reggae band that unfortunately doesn't play much any more. Couple of good bands that no longer exist DInkus 9, Mexican Cession, Cherry Bing (members of which now comprise Cute is What We Aim For, long way down eh?). I dig on Big D, Streetlight, The Slackers, Westbound Train, Reel Big Fish, ASOB, BTMI! the Aggrolites etc.

Ho, I'm Nik from Lancashire, UK.

Started collecting ska in 1979 when I first heard 'Gangsters' on the radio. From there - and the rest of the 2-Tone era bands - I discovered the Trojan label and other JA ska and rocksteady. After a couple of years of listening to that I got into the early US scene - Toasters, Bosstones and particularly Bim Skala Bim who I watched blow Bad Manners off a Manchester stage.

From there? All sorts from Ska Flames out of Japan through Unicorn and Skank records in this country to cover bands and independent ska releases. Into and very quickly out of the ska-punk noise, swerved the ska-core scene and found myself playing more and more newer stuff as a DJ on the UK scooter scene. A source of constant annoyance to me though is the usual UK scooterists attitude of 'We don't like anything new' but I'll win them over.... Oh yes I bloody well will.....

Currently I'm listening to a lot of Do The Dog label releases thanks to a special offer they had recently ;) and building up my collection on the cheap where I can.

Did I miss anything?

I'm Aidan. I live in the Ann Arbor, Michigan area. The scene where I live is decent. As many of you know, mustard plug is from about 3 hours north of me in Grand Rapids, and around where I live we have We Are The Union and Soapbox Paradox. I'm in a band. We suck. I'm the drummer.

I'm Drew. I'm from Knoxville, TN. Our scene is not that strong right now, with only 1 or 2 local bands, and occasional shows from out of town acts. The one big thing we have is Ska Weekend, but that only comes around once a year, so that's more of a very special treat than part of the scene.

Some of my favorite bands are The Toasters, The Specials, Big D and the Kids Table, Westbound Train, The Slackers, and Less Than Jake. I'm currently delving further into first wave ska and reggae as well.
